Famous Landmarks
The most famous landmark in Saudi Arabia is defiantly the holy city of Mecca. Mecca is the birthplace of Mohammad, the prophet, and the place he returned to after his exile to Medina. In fact, five times a day more than one billion Muslims around the world turn towards Mecca and pray to Allah. Mecca is surrounded by low, rocky hill ranges in a region of western Saudi Arabia, Hijaz. Mecca had a resident population of about 650,000 which more than triples during the annual Hajj. Since 630CE, Non-Muslims have been forbidden to enter the city because Mohammad made Mecca the center of all Muslim faith.
